CURRICULUM &
THE DEVELOPING CHILD

The curriculum of the school is based on the phases and growth of the developing child and the image of the human being as outlined by Dr. Steiner. It is based on human relationships. Thus, the faculty, staff and students work with each other in a human-centred way. The school leadership supports the healthy development of each individual and the community as a whole.

The highly interdisciplinary curriculum blends academics with lessons in the fine and practical arts, nature and agricultural-based activities, class trips, outdoor learning and more.  The lessons taught at every age help promote the growing individuality of the students.  The activities in the classroom are based on a well-developed knowledge of the growing child and educational instinct informed by the teachers’ ongoing professional development and their ongoing study of their class.

The children’s development phases guide the approach in each area of the school. Before the age of seven, educating the will of the child is given emphasis.

In practice, this means children are taught out of imitation rather than direct instruction. After seven, educating the feeling life takes centre stage, while independent thinking is cultivated in the Upper School.

A particular teacher may stay with the same class throughout the lower school (Class 1 to 8).

Deep friendships and relationships are formed with children and families that can shape their character and who they are as human beings.

curriculum & guiding principles

All the core subjects are taught in rhythmically structured main lesson daily periods of 120 minutes. These lessons take place every morning for a period of 3 to 4 weeks.

In that way, the main lesson changes subject and alternates throughout the school year, taking into account the rhythm and learning of the whole class.

There are no formal examinations in our school.

The students are assessed appropriately and carefully, based on their developmental profile, without compromising academic and developmental growth.
